According to news reports, Recife, Brazil-based Cimentos da Bahia S.A. has signed a protocol of intention with the government of Bahia regarding construction of a new cement plant in the state. The facility will be located in the city of Paripiranga, 366 km from Salvador, Bahia’s state capital.
The project involves the construction of a 3-million-tpy open pit limestone quarry and an integrated cement plant at the same site. The facility has been designed to operate with a 5,000-tpd rotary clinker kiln and two finishing mills to produce an average of 2 million tons of portland cement annually.
Construction is slated to commence in November with operations expected to begin in 2016.
