Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in July 2013 were about 8.1 million metric tons (Mt), up by 11 percent from the level in July 2012, according to the recently released USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through July were 45.1 Mt, up slightly. The leading portland cement-producing states in July were Missouri, California, Texas, Michigan and Florida, in descending order and these accounted for about 44 percent of the total shipments for the month. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received about 36 percent of the July total shipments.
Clinker production totaled about 6.2 Mt in July, a modest decline from the output in July 2012. Production for the year through July was 38.6 Mt, up slightly. The leading clinker-producing states in July were Texas, California, Missouri, Alabama and Florida, in descending order.
Masonry cement shipments in July of about 194,000 metric tons (t) were up by 12 percent from those of July 2012. Shipments for the year through July were 1.19 Mt, up by nearly 6 percent. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina, and Georgia, and these received about 48 percent of July’s total shipments.
