Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2013 were 6.56 million metric tons (Mt), down slightly from the level in November 2012, according to the latest USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through November were 76.9 Mt, up by about 4 percent. The leading portland cement-producing states in November were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania, in descending order, and these accounted for about 44 percent of the total shipments for the month. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received about 37 percent of the November total shipments.
Clinker production totaled about 6.5 Mt in November, up by almost 10 percent from the output in November 2012. Production for the year through November was 64.7 Mt, up by nearly 4 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in November were Missouri, California, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania, in descending order, and these accounted for 46 percent of the November total.
Masonry cement shipments in November of about 169,000 metric tons (t) were up by about 4 percent from those of November 2012. Shipments for the year through November were 1.85 Mt, up by about 8 percent. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received about 48 percent of November’s total shipments.
