Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in October 2013 were 8.7 million metric tons (Mt), up by 8 percent from the level in October 2012, according to the recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through October were 70.3 Mt, up by about 4 percent. The leading portland cement-producing states in October were Missouri, California, Texas, Michigan and Florida, in descending order and these accounted for about 43 percent of the total shipments for the month. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received about 35 percent of the October total shipments.
Clinker production totaled about 6.7 Mt in October, up by about 5 percent from the output in October 2012. Production for the year through October was 58.2 Mt, up by 3 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in October were California, Texas, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Florida, and these accounted for 48 percent of the October total.
Masonry cement shipments in October of about 213,000 metric tons (t) were up by about 14 percent from those of October 2012. Shipments for the year through October were 1.79 Mt, up by 8 percent. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received about 57 percent of October’s total shipments.
Preliminary November 2013 results show total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico at 6.56 Mt for the month, and at 76.86 Mt for the year through November. Masonry cement shipments in November are anticipated at about 168,574 t, with shipments for the year through November at 1.95 Mt.
