Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in March 2014 were 6.1 million metric tons (Mt), up by nearly 6 percent from the level in March 2013, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through March were 15.7 Mt, up by about 3 percent from the same period in 2013.
The leading portland cement-producing states in March were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Louisiana, in descending order) received about 45 percent of the March total shipments.
Clinker production totaled 5.7 Mt in March 2014, essentially unchanged from the output in March 2013. Production for the year through March totaled 14.3 Mt, up by about 4 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in March were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order.
Masonry cement shipments in March 2014 of about 178,000 metric tons (t) were up by almost 9 percent from those of March 2013. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received about 55 percent of March’s total shipments.
