Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in September 2014 were 9.0 million metric tons (Mt), up by nearly 14 percent from the level in September 2013, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through September were 66.3 Mt, up by almost 8 percent from the same period in 2013.
The leading portland cement-producing states in September were Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan and Florida, in descending order, and these accounted for about 42 percent of the total output. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, in descending order) received about 36 percent of the September shipments.
Clinker production totaled 6.9 Mt in September 2014, up by nearly 8 percent from the output in September 2013. Production for the year through September totaled 54.6 Mt, up by about 6 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in September were Texas, Missouri, California, Pennsylvania and Florida, in descending order, and these accounted for about 46 percent of total output.
Masonry cement shipments in September 2014 of about 222,000 metric tons (t) were up by almost 15 percent from those of September 2013. Shipments for the year through September totaled 1.72 Mt, up by about 8 percent. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Tennessee and Georgia, and these received nearly 51 percent of September’s shipments.
