Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in October 2014 were 9.6 million metric tons (Mt), up by 10 percent from the level in October 2013, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through October were 75.8 Mt, up by 8 percent from the same period in 2013.
The leading portland cement-producing states in October were Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan and Alabama, in descending order, and these accounted for about 42 percent of the total output. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, and Illinois, in descending order) received about 37 percent of the October shipments.
Clinker production totaled 7.1 Mt in October 2014, up by 6 percent from the output in October 2013. Production for the year through October totaled 61.7 Mt, up by about 6 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in October were Texas, Missouri, California, Alabama and Florida, in descending order.
Masonry cement shipments in October 2014 of about 213,000 metric tons (t) were down by nearly 3 percent from those of October 2013. Shipments for the year through October totaled 1.93 Mt, up by about 6 percent. The leading masonry cement consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received nearly 51 percent of October’s shipments.
