In a 5-1 vote, the Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners has approved the plans for a $130 million upgrade to the St. Marys Cement facility in Charlevoix, Mich., reported the Petoskey News-Review.
A public hearing before the board was the last in a line of local agencies tasked with scrutinizing the project, which now moves to the state Department of Environmental Quality for final approval.
Commissioner George Lasater provided the lone vote in opposition of the proposal stating that he simply wanted to do more research on the proposal. “I don’t have enough information,” Lasater said. “I’m sure my decision is going to be positive, but I need time to digest this information.”
