Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in February 2015 were about 4.8 million metric tons (Mt), up by 2 percent from the level in February 2014, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through February totaled 10.2 Mt, up by 7 percent from the same period in 2014.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in February were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Arizona and Georgia, in descending order) received about 54 percent of the February shipments.
Clinker production totaled about 4.6 Mt in February 2015, up by about 14 percent from the output in February 2014. Production for the year through February was nearly 10 Mt, up by almost 16 percent from the same period in 2014. The leading clinker-producing states in February were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and South Carolina, in descending order, and these accounted for 57 percent of total output.
Masonry cement shipments in February 2015 of about 135,000 metric tons (t) were essentially unchanged from those of February 2014. The leading masonry cement consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and North Carolina, and these received about 65 percent of February’s shipments.
Preliminary results for March 2015 show portland and blended cement shipments at 6.3 Mt, and 16.4 Mt for the year through March. Prepared masonry cement shipments are anticipated to be 187,981 t for March.
