Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in August 2015 were about 9.1 million metric tons (Mt), up by 4 percent from the level in August 2014, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through August totaled 59.1 Mt, up by 3.5 percent from the same period in 2014.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in August were Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan and Florida, in descending order, and these states accounted for 41 percent of the total shipments for the month. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, in descending order) received about 37 percent of the August shipments.
Clinker production totaled 7.0 Mt in August 2015, up slightly from the output in August 2014. Production for the year through August was 49.3 Mt, up by 3.3 percent from the same period in 2014. The leading clinker-producing states in August were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.
Masonry cement shipments in August 2015 of about 210,000 metric tons were up slightly from those of August 2014. Shipments for the year through August were 1.5 Mt, also up slightly from the same period in 2014. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received about 51 percent of August’s shipments.
