The Cementos Argos board of directors has unanimously appointed Juan Esteban Calle as the new CEO of the company effective April 1, 2016. Calle will replace Jorge Mario Velasquez, who was recently named the new CEO of Grupo Argos.
The board of directors noted that Calle’s interpersonal skills and professional record of accomplishments will serve as the foundation that will allow Argos to continue its growth and expansion strategy, strengthening its organizational culture and good practices in environmental and social management.
Since January 2012, Calle has been the CEO of the Empresas Publicas de Medellin, a residential public utilities company with operations and subsidiaries across the Americas, where he successfully led the transformation process of the EPM Group and the integration of its subsidiaries as well as the growth strategy in the local and international markets.
Throughout his career, he has held positions such as senior associate for Chase Manhattan Bank of New York (JPMorgan Chase Bank), finance director for the Antioquia Department in Colombia, foreign investment director for Proexport in its Canada office, and investment advisor for the Bank of Montreal (BMO Financial Group), among others. Calle holds a bachelor’s degree in business from EAFIT University (Medellin, Colombia) and a master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance and economics from the University of Chicago.
Since becoming CEO in 2012, Velasquez developed Cementos Argos’ vision, consolidating an internationalization process and transforming the company into a word-class example in corporate governance and sustainability. He will continue as CEO of Cementos Argos until March 2016 when he will assume the role of CEO for Grupo Argos.
