Cemex Dominican Republic, the country’s biggest cement producer, said that RD$300 million ($6.55 million) owed by the State Supervising Engineers Office (OISOE) is the reason for the halted construction of the Puerto Plata-Luperon Road, reported the Dominican Today. The company’s statement responds to recent protests by communities demanding that the work on the provincial road resume.

2015 Cement Shipments Slightly Up
Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in December 2015 were about 6.6 million metric tons (Mt), up by 5.6 percent from the level in December 2014, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey.
