Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in December 2015 were about 6.6 million metric tons (Mt), up by 5.6 percent from the level in December 2014, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey.
Shipments for the year through December totaled 91.5 Mt, up by 3.5 percent from the full-year 2014.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in December were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, New York and Illinois, in descending order) received about 42 percent of the December shipments.
Clinker production totaled 6.9 Mt in December 2015, up by 6.1 percent from the output in December 2014. Production for the year through December was 76.5 Mt, up by 2.0 percent from that for full-year 2014. The leading clinker-producing states in December were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
Masonry cement shipments of about 193,000 metric tons (t) in December 2015 were up by 11.5 percent from those of December 2014. Shipments for the year through December were 2.4 Mt, up by 2.1 percent compared with total sales in 2014. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and North Carolina; these received about 52 percent of December’s shipments.
