Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in October 2016 were about 9.0 million metric tons (Mt), down by 3.4 percent from sales in October 2015, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in October 2016 were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan, in descending order, and these accounted for about 41 percent of the national total.
The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, in descending order) received 37 percent of the October shipments. Sales for January through October totaled 79.4 Mt, up by 2.3 percent from those in the same period in 2015.
Clinker production totaled 6.9 Mt in October 2016, essentially unchanged from the output in October 2015. The leading clinker-producing states in October were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama. Production for January through October totaled 63.6 Mt, up slightly from the same period in 2015.
Masonry cement shipments of about 217,000 metric tons in October 2016 were up by 2.1 percent from those in October 2015. The leading masonry-cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and North Carolina; these received about 51 percent of October’s shipments. Shipments for January through October 2016 were 2.1 Mt, up by 4.2 percent from shipments in the same period in 2015.
