Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2016 were about 7.9 million metric tons (Mt), up by 8.2 percent from sales in November 2015, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in November 2016 were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama, in descending order.
The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received 38 percent of the November shipments. Sales for January through November totaled 87.3 Mt, up by 2.7 percent from those in the same period in 2015.
Clinker production totaled 6.6 Mt in November 2016, down by 2.4 percent from the output in November 2015. The leading clinker-producing states in November were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama. Production for January through November totaled 70.1 Mt, up slightly from the same period in 2015.
Masonry cement shipments of about 206,000 metric tons in November 2016 were up by 16.7 percent from those in November 2015. The leading masonry-cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these received almost 52 percent of November’s shipments. Shipments for January through November 2016 were 2.3 Mt, up by 5.2 percent from shipments in the same period in 2015.
