HeidelbergCement announced the launch of Sustainability Commitments 2030, the six-point successor to its current Sustainability Ambitions 2020 program. Sustainability Commitments will center on reducing carbon dioxide emissions 30 percent from 1990 levels; steering 80 percent of the research & development budget to sustainable products; increasing natural resource substitution with by-products or recycled materials; and eliminating lost-time accidents.
“Our goal is to grow in harmony with the environment and society. The Sustainability Commitments 2030 challenge us to find new solutions and think differently to make our business even more sustainable. That is what we need to ensure our corporate success over the long-term,” said Dr. Bernd Scheifele, chairman of the HeidelbergCement managing board.
To ensure that the company continues to grow sustainably, HeidelbergCement will focus on six key areas of action along the entire value chain:
- Driving economic strength and innovation.
- Achieving excellence in occupational health and safety.
- Reducing environmental footprint.
- Enabling the circular economy.
- Being a good neighbor.
- Ensuring compliance and creating transparency.
With program development supported by representatives of all business lines and group areas, noted Dr. Bernd Scheifele, “This joint effort has already created a broad understanding of what we want to achieve as a company. Now, the Sustainability Commitments 2030 must become present in the minds and the daily activities of our employees, and thus reflected in our business processes.”
