Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2017 were about 8.2 million metric tons (Mt), up by 4.2 percent from shipments in November 2016, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in November 2017 were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama, in descending order.
The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, in descending order) received about 39 percent of the November shipments. Shipments for the year through November were 89.3 Mt, up by 2.3 percent from those during the same period in 2016.
Masonry cement shipments of about 196,000 metric tons (t) in November 2017 were down slightly from those in November 2016. The leading masonry-cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these states received almost 57 percent of the November shipments. Masonry cement shipments for the year through November were 2.25 Mt, slightly higher than those for the same period in 2016.
Clinker production totaled 6.8 Mt in November 2017, up by 2.9 percent from the output in November 2016. The leading clinker-producing states in November were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama. Clinker production for the year through November totaled 70.2 Mt, virtually unchanged from output for the same period in 2016.
