Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in March 2018 were about 7.4 million metric tons (Mt), slightly less than shipments in March 2017, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through March totaled about 19.0 Mt, essentially unchanged from those for the same period in 2017.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in March 2018 were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania, in descending order) received about 46 percent of the March shipments.
Masonry cement shipments of about 207,000 metric tons (t) in March 2018 were 9.0 percent lower than those in March 2017. For the year through March, shipments totaled 544,000 t, 7.2 percent less than those for the same period in 2017. The leading masonry-cement-consuming states in March 2018 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and North Carolina; these states received about 59 percent of the March shipments.
Clinker production totaled 5.9 Mt in March 2018, down by 4.4 percent from the output in March 2017. For the year through March 2018, production was 15.3 Mt, down slightly from that of the same period in 2017. The leading clinker-producing states in March 2017 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
