The World Cement Association (WCA) announced that its annual conference will be held in China for the first time, this year. The WCA World Cement Conference will take place Sept. 9-11 in Shanghai, and will focus on “Innovation for a Sustainable Industry.”
This year’s theme acknowledges the rapidly growing awareness of climate change risks among investors, financiers and society at large, and the need for the cement industry to more effectively embrace decarbonization.
“It’s been clear for some time that climate change is going to be the defining issue for the cement sector over the next decade,” said Norman Greig, secretary general of the WCA. “And this challenge is one we can’t tackle alone: we must work collectively and collaboratively to raise standards, further innovation and make real progress toward a low-carbon future, together.”
The WCA’s international cement conference is the leading forum for presentation and discussion of the sector’s most pressing technical and sustainability issues, attracting industry leaders from all over the world.
Delegates will be hosted at the Jinmao Hyatt Hotel in Shanghai to share best practice, hear the latest thinking from industry peers, and ultimately gain vital insight into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. All areas of the cement ecosystem will be represented, from senior executives and technical experts to investors and equipment suppliers.
The conference program will cover the outlook for the industry as well as looking at some of the most promising and innovative technologies being developed today. There will also be a guided tour of Anhui Conch’s pioneering carbon capture project at its Tongling cement plant.
