Cementos Argos announced that after an investment of more than $78 million on a new production line capable of producing 450,000 tpy of calcined clay, its Rioclaro Plant in Colombia has begun manufacturing and distributing green cement.
The company said that it reduces the use of clinker in the production of the product by incorporating thermally activated clays. This makes the product more sustainable as the carbon dioxide emissions of the production process are reduced up to 38% and energy consumption is reduced by 30%, in comparison to the industry standard.
The new environmentally friendly product maintains the quality and performance that have always characterized the company. “With this project, we are leading the industry and sowing the seeds of the Argos of the future, which today starts with a new production line in Rioclaro, but has a gigantic growth potential in all geographies. This is not only from a product point of view, but rather from a concrete action for the sustainability of our industry. In our commitment to climate change, this project clearly makes us very proud,” said Juan Esteban Calle, president and CEO of Cementos Argos.
This new line uses the latest technology in cement manufacturing equipment. It allows Argos greater flexibility and positions it as the first cement producing company in Colombia to offer its customers a broad portfolio of products, as well as the possibility of personalizing the cements according to the needs and requirements of their projects.
“This new technological platform allows us to dream of alternative businesses and not only ratifies our commitment to sustainability, but also positions us at the spearhead of innovation in the industry, because we are modifying the way cement is traditionally produced,” said Tomás Restrepo, vice president of the Colombia Region.
