Roanoke Cement Co., a Titan America business, agreed to pay a $3,640 fine for violating air emission standards in 2019, reported The Roanoke Times.
The fine is part of an agreement reached with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for a citation for an overheated baghouse inlet at its Troutville plant. The average temperature reached 250 degrees over a nine-hour period on June 26, 2019, due to an equipment malfunction.
There was no documented harm to public health or the environment, according to Marvin Booth, an enforcement specialist with DEQ’s regional office.
