The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named Cemex as a 2024 Energy Star Partner of the Year and Titan America’s Roanoke and Pennsuco cement plants as Energy Star recipients.
This is the sixth consecutive year that Cemex has earned the prestigious award for Sustained Excellence in Energy Management, upholding the company’s unyielding commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental stewardship in its operations nationwide.
“We believe energy efficiency is not only good for business, but also good for the planet. This honor is a testament to our steadfast commitment to building a better, more sustainable future,” said Cemex USA President Jaime Muguiro.
Notable projects contributing to Cemex’s Partner of the Year achievement include sourcing 100% renewable electricity at one of its cement plants; launching more than 30 thermal and electrical efficiency upgrade projects; replacing dozens of ready-mix trucks and transport tractors with low emission, compressed natural gas vehicles; and replacing three diesel-powered locomotives with near-zero emissions locomotives.
This is the 17th and 16th consecutive years, respectively, that Titan America’s Roanoke (Virginia) and Pennsuco (Florida) cement plants have earned Energy Star designations.
Zaklina Stamboliska, vice president of sustainability at Titan America, emphasized the significance of the accomplishment. “Our dedication to energy management is a core aspect of our sustainability strategy and points to our commitment to continually improving energy performance, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our operations,” Stamboliska said.
The Roanoke and Pennsuco cement plants have consistently exceeded industry benchmarks, employing initiatives that go beyond traditional standards to ensure the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
