Caribbean Cement Commissions Kiln Expansion

Caribbean Cement Co., a subsidiary of Cemex, commissioned its $42 million Debottleneck project at its Rockfort, Jamaica, facility, reported the Jamaica Observer. The project is designed to enhance the production capacity and operational efficiency at the plant.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness said the major investment will support Jamaica’s pursuit of industrialization, self-sufficiency and sustained economic growth. He added that the transformation of the industrial backbone that supports the construction industry and cement production is critical.

“This project’s success stabilizes Carib Cement’s kiln operations, maximizes clinker production, and meets Jamaica’s cement needs through domestic output. It also positions Jamaica as a potential net exporter of cement to the Caribbean, fostering regional economic growth,” said Carib Cement Managing Director Jorge Martinez, adding that the investment represents one of the largest and most transformative in local cement manufacturing in recent history.

The expanded kiln includes a new main baghouse, a solid fuel dosing system with storage silo, CO₂ fire suppression and inerting systems, upgraded process ducts, a new compressed air system, and a kiln chimney.
