Utah-based Eco Material Technologies signed an agreement with CRH to be acquired for $2.1 billion. Following the closing of the transaction, the business will operate as Eco Material Technologies, a CRH Company.
“This strategic acquisition further positions CRH as a leading cementitious player in North America with both cement and [supplementary cementitious material] capabilities. This transaction demonstrates CRH’s disciplined approach to capital allocation, building market-leading positions in higher-growth markets with secular tailwinds and superior returns,” said CRH head Jim Mintern.
“As we continue to modernize North America’s infrastructure, this transaction secures the long-term supply of critical materials for future growth and puts CRH at the forefront of the transition to next-generation cement and concrete. With more than 1,100 Eco Material employees joining the CRH team, our combined operations create a more connected business to better serve our customers,” he concluded.
Eco Material operates a national network of fresh and harvested fly ash, pozzolans, synthetic gypsum, and green cement operations distributed across a network of over 125 utility source locations, production facilities, and terminals.
The proposed transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions and is expected to close this year.
Separately, Eco Material announced the grand opening of its Lakeview plant in southern Oregon. This milestone marks the company’s first sustainably built manufacturing hub in the Pacific Northwest.
Strategically adjacent to Lake County’s freight rail line, the Lakeview plant is engineered to produce up to 300,000 tpy of low‑carbon cement replacements. Approximately 75% of shipments will be distributed by rail using existing infrastructure.
The facility rollout continues Eco Material’s national expansion, including a recently opened terminal in Queens supplying 50,000 tons of harvested fly ash annually to the New York City metro market. With the Lakeview plant coming online, the company is on track to deliver more than 10 million tons of environmentally beneficial materials per year across 40 metro areas in North America.
