Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in May 2015 were about 7.8 million metric tons (Mt), down by 4.5 percent from the level in May 2014, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through May totaled 31.9 Mt, up by 2.6 percent from the same period in 2014.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in May were California, Missouri, Texas, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received about 37 percent of the May shipments.
Clinker production totaled 6.7 Mt in May 2015, down by 5.8 percent from the output in May 2014. Production for the year through May was 28.3 Mt, up by 4.2 percent from the same period in 2014. The leading clinker-producing states in May were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania, in descending order, and these accounted for about 46 percent of May’s total.
Masonry cement shipments in May 2015 of about 201,000 metric tons (t) were down by 2.4 percent from those of May 2014. Shipments for the year through May were 875,000 t, up slightly from the same period in 2014. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, California and Tennessee, and these received 50 percent of May’s shipments.
