Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in March 2016 were about 7.5 million metric tons (Mt), up by 19.3 percent from sales in March 2015, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in March were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order.
The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, in descending order) received about 42 percent of the March shipments. Sales for January through March totaled 18.8 Mt, up by 14.5 percent from the volume in the same period in 2015.
Clinker production totaled about 6.0 Mt in March 2016, up by 9.8 percent from the output in March 2015. The leading clinker-producing states in March were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Michigan, and these accounted for 48 percent of the total output for the month. Production for January through March totaled 16.3 Mt, up by 5.6 percent from the same period in 2015.
Masonry cement shipments of about 236,000 metric tons (t) in March 2016 were up by 22.3 percent from those of March 2015. The leading masonry-cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these received almost 55 percent of March’s shipments. Shipments for January through March 2016 were 574,000 t, up by 17.4 percent from levels in the same period in 2015.
