Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in April 2017 were about 7.6 million metric tons (Mt), slightly less than sales in April 2016, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in April 2017 were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order.
The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, in descending order) received 41 percent of the April shipments. Shipments for the year through April were 26.5 Mt, substantially unchanged from the same period in 2016.
Clinker production totaled 6.1 Mt in April 2017, up slightly from the output in April 2016. The leading clinker-producing states in April were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania, and these states accounted for 48 percent for the month’s total production. Clinker production for the year through April totaled 21.9 Mt, down slightly from that of the same period in 2016.
Masonry cement shipments of about 193,000 metric tons (t) in April 2017 were down by 6 percent from those in April 2016. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Tennessee; these received 54 percent of April’s shipments. Masonry cement shipments for the year through April were 780,000 t, up slightly from those of the same period in 2016.
