The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded Cementos Argos’ Harleyville, S.C., plant Energy Star certification for its commitment to the reduction and efficient use of energy and preservation of environmental resources. This is the second consecutive year the plant has earned Energy Star status.
“We are delighted to be granted with this certification that ratifies our commitment to sustainability and validates our practices in this important topic,” said María Isabel Echeverri, Argos legal and sustainability vice president. “The responsible use of energy is an essential pillar of our company, and we work every day on the development and implementation of technologies that enable the efficient use and strategic management of this resource.”
The Harleyville plant has the largest cement mill in the United States and operates at half the power consumption required by a traditional mill, according to Argos.
