Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in July 2019 were 10.0 million metric tons (Mt), an increase of 7.7% from shipments in July 2018, according to the latest USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through July totaled 56.5 Mt, an increase of 2.4% from those for the same period in 2018.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in July 2019 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Michigan, these states accounted for 39% of cement produced. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois) received 38% of July shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled 226,000 metric tons in July 2019, a slight decrease from those in July 2018. Shipments for the year through July totaled 1.4 Mt, essentially unchanged from those for the same period in 2018. The leading masonry-cement-consuming states in July 2019 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these states received 54% of July shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 7.6 Mt in July 2019, an increase of 3.3% from the output in July 2018. Production for the year through July totaled 43.5 Mt, essentially unchanged from the output for the same period in 2018. The leading clinker-producing states in July 2019 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.
