Lehigh Hanson, Inc.’s Lehigh Cement Co. plants in Redding and Tehachapi, Calif., have earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) prestigious Energy Star, the national symbol for protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency.
In order to be considered for the 2010 Energy Star, the Redding and Tehachapi plants had to achieve an energy performance rating of at least 75 as measured by the EPA’s cement plant energy performance indicator (EPI). The rating system’s 1–100 scale enables a plant to quickly understand how it is performing against similar plants across the country. A rating of 50 indicates average energy performance, while a rating of 75 or better indicates top performance. Both the Tehachapi and Redding plants achieved a perfect 100 rating.
Earning the Energy Star demonstrates Lehigh Hanson’s environmental leadership in the industry, especially with regard to energy performance. “At Lehigh Hanson, we are committed to operating in a safe and environmentally friendly manner,” said Dan Harrington, President and CEO. “Our efforts to become more energy efficient at our production facilities are a clear reflection of this commitment and we are extremely pleased to be recognized by the EPA for our superior energy performance at the Redding and Tehachapi cement plants.”
