Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico were about 7.3 million mt in June 2011, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This was 2.8 percent lower compared with shipments for June 2010. Total shipments for the year through June were approximately 32.1 million mt, slightly lower than the same period in 2010.
Clinker production totaled 5.8 million mt in June 2011, about 2.0% lower than the output in June 2010. Production for the year through June was 28.4 million mt, slightly lower than that for the same period in 2010. Masonry cement shipments of about 894,000 mt for June 2011 were nearly 6.0 percent lower compared with shipments in June 2010. Shipments for the year through June were 548,000 mt, down by almost 9 percent from those through June 2010.
June 2011 imports of cement and clinker of about 736,000 mt were up 9.0 percent from those in June 2010. Imports for the year so far totaled 2.86 million mt, down about 3.0 percent from those through June 2010.
