Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico were 7.6 million mt in June 2012, according to the USGS. This was almost 5.0 percent higher compared with shipments for June 2011. Shipments for the year through June were 37 million mt, up about 15 percent for the same period in 2011.
Clinker production totaled 6.3 million mt in June 2012, about 8.0 percent higher than the output in June 2011. Production for the year through June was 31.7 million mt, up 11 percent. Masonry cement shipments of about 176,000 mt for June were down almost 3.0 percent compared with shipments in June 2011. Shipments for the year through June were 943,000 mt, up almost 6.0 percent.
June 2012 imports of cement and clinker of about 712,000 mt were 3.0 percent lower than June 2011. Imports for the year through June were 3.1 million mt, up almost 9.0 percent.
