The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) cited the Dragon Cement plant in Thomaston, Maine, for 33 safety violations with 10 being considered significant during an impact inspection in May, reported local media.
This is the latest in a string of violations at the plant that has led to numerous fines over the past few years. In 2022, Dragon Cement, a Giant Cement company, paid $150,113 for mine safety and health violations, according to federal records. In 2021, it paid $76,726, and in 2020 it paid $133,805.
“Dragon reaffirms its commitment to safety and collaborative efforts with the industry and government agencies. Recent inspections by MSHA resulted in citations primarily related to housekeeping. Dragon promptly addressed these citations and worked closely with MSHA to improve plant safety,” the company said.
“Dragon’s ongoing efforts include reinforcing housekeeping practices and continuous improvement in safety protocols. The company remains focused on the well-being of its employees and the community. Dragon strives to maintain the highest safety standards and be an industry leader in responsible and socially conscious practices,” Dragon Cement concluded.
Fines have not been issued for the latest violations.
