Portland Cement Association (PCA) is seeking nominations for its 14th biennial Bridge Awards Competition. The program recognizes excellence in design and construction of concrete bridges.
All types of bridges – highway, railway, pedestrian – in which the basic structural system is concrete are eligible. Entries are equally encouraged for cast-in-place or precast concrete bridges with short, medium or long spans. Newly constructed, reconstructed or widened structures qualify for the competition.
A jury of distinguished professionals will judge submitted bridges. Awards will be made in recognition of creativity and skillfulness in the structural, functional, aesthetic, sustainable, and economic design of concrete bridges. Consideration will also be given for innovative construction methods, including accelerated bridge construction. Awards will be presented at the American Concrete Institute’s Fall Convention, Oct. 26-30, in Washington, D.C.
Public and private organizations may submit as many bridges as desired. Eligible structures for the 2014 competition must have been essentially completed between October 2011 and September 2013, and must be located within the United States or Canada.
Entries are due May 30 and can be submitted here. The competition is co-sponsored by Roads & Bridges magazine.
