FLSmidth is expanding its operations in the Colombian market through the establishment of a new office in the city of Barranquilla in the northern part of the country. The new office opened Jan. 1, and will bring FLSmidth closer to its customers on the Colombian market and strengthen local service offerings. The Barranquilla office is part of FLSmidth’s extended activities to bring the group’s services closer to its customers all around the world.
Over the last decade, the Colombian economy has been on an upward spiral due to improvement in the security situation, political stability and a growing middle class in the country. These trends are reflected in Colombia’s cement market, which is expected to generate continued opportunities for new cement projects, operation and maintenance contracts, and service activities in the coming years, noted FLSmidth in a press release. In the longer term, mineral processing and material handling opportunities are also likely to develop as Colombia is rich in mineral deposits.
FLSmidth has been serving the Colombian cement industry for the last several years with a good deal of sales, upgrade and maintenance projects. During 2007, FLSmidth supplied all services including engineering, project management, training and commissioning as well as major machinery and auxiliary equipment for the cement plant of Cementos Argos S.A, located in Cartagena, Colombia.
