Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in February 2014 were 4.7 million metric tons (Mt), up slightly from the level in February 2013, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through February were 9.6 Mt, up slightly. The leading portland cement-producing states in February were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Louisiana, in descending order) received about 52 percent of the February total shipments.
Clinker production totaled about 4.0 Mt in February 2014, up by nearly 5 percent from the output in February 2013. Production for the year through February totaled 8.6 Mt, up by about 6 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in February were Texas, California, Missouri, Alabama and Florida, in descending order.
Masonry cement shipments in February were about 134,000 metric tons (t), up by almost 3 percent from those of the prior year. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Alabama and North Carolina, and these received about 65 percent of February’s total shipments.
Preliminary data for March has total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico around 6.1 Mt for the month. Masonry cement shipments for March are about 178,177 t.
