University of Texas Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Professor Maria Juenger has begun a 2025-2026 term as American Concrete Institute president. Alongside extensive ACI committee activity, she has overseen investigations of cement-based materials, including phase formation in cement clinkering; cement and supplementary cementitious material hydration chemistry; and, chemical deterioration processes in concrete. In current work on the interaction of cement-based materials and the environment, Professor Juenger aims to develop and characterize cementitious systems with lower carbon dioxide and energy footprints. She holds a BS in Chemistry from Duke University and PhD in Material Science and Engineering from Northwestern University.
