Continental Cement Company will pay a $74,440 civil penalty to resolve alleged violations of the federal Clean Air Act at its Hannibal, Mo., plant. As part of the settlement, the company will also procure low-emission school buses for a local school district.

EPA ‘Good Neighbor’ Plan Targets Cement Kilns
Following clear Clean Air Act requirements and meeting a court deadline, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a federal plan that would cut emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from power plants and industrial sources, including kilns in cement and cement product manufacturing.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will collect $197,500 from Lehigh Cement Co. in Mason City, Iowa, to resolve alleged Clean Air Act violations. The EPA said the plant is a “major air emission source” that failed to comply with state and federal regulations intended to limit harmful releases of air pollution.
