Roanoke Cement commended for safety, air quality

State and county officials on behalf of the North Carolina Department of Labor and County of Forsyth, respectively, honored Roanoke Cement Co.’s Winston-Salem terminal for outstanding safety and air-quality compliance. Roanoke Cement Co. is a subsidiary of Titan America LLC.

Terminal management received the Department of Labor’s First Year Gold Safety Award for an injury-free year at the facility in 2009. To qualify for the award, an operation must sustain throughout the calendar year no fatalities and an incidence rate at least 50% below the industry average.

Additionally, Forsyth County bestowed the Winston-Salem terminal its Air Quality Award for 2009 in recognition of consistent compliance with air-quality standards. “During this time of increasing regulations and restrictions, we realize that always meeting the requirements of your permit necessitates commitment—and we appreciate that commitment,” said Peter DeVries, chairman of the Forsyth County Affairs Board, in a letter to the company bearing a certificate signed by County Commissioners and the Environmental Affairs Board of Forsyth County.
