As Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC) first Gold National Sponsor, Holcim (Canada) will play a key role in the group’s National Conference and Expo 2013, June 4-6 in Vancouver, and the implementation of EcoDistricts, an initiative aimed at working with professionals, cities and community groups to transform neighborhoods.
“Sustainable development is at the heart of our business strategy and we continuously look for ways to work alongside communities, organizations and government to transform our built environment and create a catalyst for sustainable behavior change. The CaGBC and EcoDistricts are working toward providing tangible tools that will accelerate this transformation,” said Nick Caccavella, senior vice president, Holcim (Canada) Inc. “With the help of forward looking corporations like Holcim, we will be able to assist both municipalities and community groups in fostering and advancing urban sustainability initiatives across the country,” adds CaGBC President Thomas Mueller.
The CaGBC is collaborating with the Portland Sustainability Institute to bring this new initiative to Canada, which will help rejuvenate existing neighborhoods and build new ones following an integrated set of urban sustainability principles.
The first workshop, EcoDistrict Practitioners: Accelerating District-Scale Sustainability, took place April 17 in Toronto; it will be repeated June 4 in Vancouver as part of pre-National Conference activities, and later this year in Montreal, Calgary and Ottawa.
