Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in December 2013 were 5.1 million metric tons (Mt), up by almost 9 percent from the level in December 2012, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey.
Total shipments for 2013 were 82.0 Mt, up by about 4 percent. The leading portland cement-producing states in December were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana and Arizona, in descending order) received about 45 percent of the December total shipments.
Clinker production totaled about 5.2 Mt in December, down by almost 5 percent from the output in December 2012. Total production for 2013 was 69.9 Mt, up by about 3 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in December were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama, in descending order.
Masonry cement shipments in December of about 144,000 metric tons (t) were up by about 10 percent from those of December 2012. Shipments for 2013 totaled 2.10 Mt, up by almost 8 percent. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received about 60 percent of December’s total shipments.
Preliminary January 2014 data shows total shipments of portland and blended cement in the U.S. and Puerto Rico to be 4.86 Mt; prepared masonry cement shipments at 146,006 t.
