Cemex Enters Youth Training Agreement in Dominican Republic

Cemex Dominican Republic and the Business Action for Education (Educa) signed an agreement which aims to improve the infrastructure and quality of training at polytechnic colleges as well as create job opportunities for youth in vulnerable areas.

The three-year agreement is part of the project Quisqueya Believes in You, initiated by New Employment Opportunities in Dominican Republic (NEO-DR). Quisqueya Believes in You looks to impact 32,000 vulnerable young people ages 15 to 29 in the urban areas of 13 provinces in the Dominican Republic. A multi-stakeholder initiative, NEO’s objective is to improve the quality of human capital and employability for 500,000 vulnerable young people in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Cemex will provide materials such as Titan Cement and construction tools available to the polytechnics. To help reduce the rate of youth unemployment, Cemex will also provide an opportunity to young graduates to participate in internships and contracts.

“We want students to learn well, to learn things that will serve them and want to put them into practice,” said Cemex Dominican Republic President Carlos E. González.
