Essroc Canada Hit with New Environmental Charges

Ontario’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change spokesperson Lindsay Davidson stated that Essroc Canada is facing charges for multiple discharges of a contaminant, failing to report a dust spill to the ministry and permitting an emission that obscured light passage, reported www.quintenews.com.

Earlier this year, Essroc pleaded guilty to three counts of discharging dust into the environment that was likely to have an adverse effect and one count of emitting excessive noise.

The company, which has a cement plant just north of Picton, agreed to a settlement that included paying $350,000 and a $87,500 victim surcharge.

The case has been adjourned until Nov. 13.
