Three Lehigh Hanson Cement Plants Earn Energy Star Certification

Lehigh Hanson Inc. announced that three of its cement plants have earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Energy Star certification for 2015. The company’s cement manufacturing plants in Leeds, Ala., Union Bridge, Md., and Glens Falls, N.Y., all perform within the top 25 percent of cement plants nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA. This is the third consecutive year the Union Bridge plant has received the certification and the second consecutive year for the Leeds and Glens Falls plants.

“Energy efficiency is a key aspect of Lehigh Hanson’s commitment to operating our manufacturing facilities in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner,” said Jon Morrish, president and CEO. “The operational efficiency and strict energy management at the Leeds, Union Bridge and Glens Falls cement plants are a reflection of the priority we place on sustainability and reducing our environmental footprint.”

Earning the Energy Star certification at these three cement plants is just one example of Lehigh Hanson’s industry leadership in sustainable manufacturing processes. The company has operational efficiency and energy optimization programs in place across all its business lines and it strives to continually improve performance in these areas. In addition, Lehigh Hanson is an Energy Star corporate partner and has the unique distinction of being the only aggregates producer to have five of its crushed stone plants achieve the EPA’s Energy Star Challenge for Industry.

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s industrial facilities is critical to protecting our environment,” said Jean Lupinacci, chief, Energy Star Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the plant floor to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their facilities more energy efficient and earning EPA’s Energy Star certification.”
