GCC Dacotah Plant to Undergo $90 Million Renovation

The GCC Dacotah cement plant in Rapid City, S.D., will undergo $90 million worth of improvements, reported the Rapid City Journal.

The renovation project includes equipment replacement in a kiln that had been shut down in recent years, plus the incorporation of alternative fuels to lower the plant’s impact on the environment and improvements to shipping operations.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced the project during a recent groundbreaking ceremony held at the plant, which was founded by the state in the 1920s and sold into private ownership in 2001. Daugaard said the company has been a good corporate citizen, “and now they’re showing today that they are forward-thinking and leading.”
