Mississauga, Ontario-based Lafarge Canada Inc. has been ordered to pay $14,000 after an employee was injured falling from a catwalk, reported local news outlets.
Lafarge Canada pleaded guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court to violating one count under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and was fined $10,000, plus a $4,000 victim fine surcharge.
The company failed to ensure that any worker who was required or permitted to assemble, use, maintain or dismantle rigging was trained in safe rigging practices.
The charge arose out of an incident in January 2014 when a boom of a track hoe hit a catwalk guardrail causing a worker to fall to the ground. The worker suffered only minor injuries.
