Cemex USA is celebrating a new beginning with the official opening of its U.S. headquarters located at 10100 Katy Freeway in the Memorial City district of Houston. The new facility pays homage to its history in the cement and building materials industry through the office’s innovative design.
The company held a ribbon-cutting in late January to mark the opening of the 82,000-sq.-ft. office. “These new offices show how Cemex USA stands strong,” said Cemex USA President Ignacio Madridejos. “This beautiful building will be part of the community for years and illustrates our commitment to being part of it.”
Cemex USA occupies two floors of the new building, which is owned and managed by MetroNational. The new office space is designed to tell the story of the company’s products through the use and display of concrete, cement and aggregate throughout, giving it an industrial feel. Cemex’s innovative Customer Experience Center has the look and feel of a high-tech trading floor with up-to-the-minute information displayed on video monitors mounted on a circular ring made of rebar.
“This office building was built utilizing Cemex concrete for its structure,” said Ed Prins, Cemex USA’s director of real estate. “Additionally, we worked with our architects, Inventure Design of Houston, to showcase the versatility of our products internally, and it illustrates how cement is the foundation of our lives every day.”
The spiral staircase connects Cemex offices on the second and third floors. Not only was the staircase designed to look like a poured in-place concrete product, the handrail is made utilizing rebar. The floors of all of the hallways in the office are exposed polished concrete, and cement product artisan tiles are used on the walls throughout to create visual interest.
“This building has safety built-in, and safety is our number one priority and value,” said Guillermo Martinez-Sans, Cemex USA’s executive vice president of human resources and communications. “The layout and modifications of the new headquarters encourage collaboration and enable us to be One Cemex.”
Cemex is also committed to the health and safety of its employees, outfitting each office and cubicle with state-of-the-art desks that allow employees to work comfortably while sitting or standing. Employees have access to new conference rooms that encourage collaboration. An open office setting ensures each workspace receives healthy doses of sunlight. More than 200 employees are working in the new Cemex offices.
