Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in April 2020 were 8.1 million metric tons (Mt), a decrease of 7.5% from shipments in April 2019, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through April totaled 29.1 Mt, an increase of 3.3% from those for the same period in 2019.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in April 2020 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Ohio) received 42% of April shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled 195,000 metric tons (t) in April 2020, a decrease of 11% from those in April 2019. Shipments for the year through April totaled 750,000 t, a decrease of 2.7% from those for the same period in 2019. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in April 2020 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, California and Tennessee; these States received 58% of April shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 6.4 Mt in April 2020, an increase of 4.9% from production in April 2019. Production for the year through April totaled 23.1 Mt, an increase of 6.0% from the same period in 2019. The leading clinker-producing states in April 2020 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.
