Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in February 2021 were an estimated 5.7 million metric tons (Mt), an 11% decrease from shipments in February 2020, according to the latest USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through February totaled an estimated 12.4 Mt, a decrease of 6.2% from those for the same period in 2020.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in February 2021 were, in descending order, California, Texas, Florida, Missouri and Alabama. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Arizona and Georgia) received 51% of February shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 149,000 metric tons (t) in February 2021, an 8.6% decrease from those in February 2020. Shipments for the year through February totaled an estimated 326,000 t, a decrease of 7.5% from those for the same period in 2020. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in February 2021 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and North Carolina; these states received 65% of February shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 4.5 Mt in February 2021, a 9.4% decrease from production in February 2020. Production for the year through February totaled an estimated 10.2 Mt, a decrease of 3.8% from the same period in 2020. The leading clinker- producing states in February 2021 were, in descending order, California, Texas, Florida, Missouri and Alabama.
