Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in June 2021 were an estimated 10.1 million metric tons (Mt), essentially unchanged from shipments in June 2020, according to the latest USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through June totaled an estimated 50.4 Mt, a 5.1% increase from those for the same period in 2020.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in June 2021 were, in descending order, Missouri, California, Texas, Florida and Michigan; these states accounted for 40% of cement produced. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois) received 37% of June shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 218,000 metric tons in June 2021, a 2.2% decrease from those in June 2020. Shipments for the year through June totaled an estimated 1.2 Mt, a slight increase from those for the same period in 2020. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in June 2021 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, California and Tennessee; these tates received 55% of June shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 7.2 Mt in June 2021, a 4.8% increase from production in June 2020. Production for the year through June totaled an estimated 36.9 Mt, essentially unchanged from the same period in 2020. The leading clinker-producing states in June 2021 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
